As we continue ISL Awareness Week in Ireland, today’s focus is on the importance of Deaf people being involved in decisions that affect our lives.

That means being #included from the beginning, not only asked for feedback after decisions have already been made. It also means making sure meetings, consultations and information are accessible through Irish Sign Language.

Nothing about us without us means #Deaf people having a real voice and a real role in decisions.

It is a discussion about lived experience, belonging and the important role the Deaf community can play in supporting one another.

A special day at Deaf Village Ireland

Today, the Irish Deaf Society and Deaf Village Ireland unveiled the new Deaf Flag plaque, celebrating Deaf #identity, culture, language, community and pride.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, took part in the stalls and displays, and helped make the event such a positive community occasion.

A special event for International Week of Deaf People and ISL Awareness Week 2026 under this year’s theme, “Declaring Deaf People’s Human Rights.”
