Your Guide to Getting Involved
Monday 21st to Sunday 27th September 2026
International Week of Deaf People is celebrated around the world each September. It is a time to recognise Deaf people, sign languages, Deaf culture and the rights of Deaf communities. It also gives Deaf communities, organisations and supporters an opportunity to raise awareness, celebrate achievements and highlight the work still needed to achieve equality and full participation.
This year, we want communities, organisations, businesses, schools and workplaces across Ireland to get involved.
It does not need to be a big event. A small activity can still make an impact.
There are lots of simple ways to take part. You could:
- Wear blue during International Week of Deaf People.
- Organise a local activity with your Deaf club, community group or organisation.
- Light your building blue to show support for the Deaf community.
- Display the Deaf Flag in your workplace, school, community centre or local area.
- Hold a coffee morning and bring people together.
- Get your school or college involved with an IWDP26 activity.
- Get your workplace involved by wearing blue, sharing information about ISL or organising a Deaf awareness activity.
- Promote ISL and encourage people to learn more about Irish Sign Language.
- Share an ISL message or video during the week.
- Share photos, videos or messages on social media about what you are doing.
