International Week of Deaf People

Your Guide to Getting Involved

Monday 21st to Sunday 27th September 2026

International Week of Deaf People is celebrated around the world each September. It is a time to recognise Deaf people, sign languages, Deaf culture and the rights of Deaf communities. It also gives Deaf communities, organisations and supporters an opportunity to raise awareness, celebrate achievements and highlight the work still needed to achieve equality and full participation.

This year, we want communities, organisations, businesses, schools and workplaces across Ireland to get involved.

It does not need to be a big event. A small activity can still make an impact.

Tell IDS what you are doing, share your photos or videos, and remember to tag the Irish Deaf Society on social media using #IWDP #IDSL #GlobalLeadersChallenge #BlueLight #DeafFlag
