About the Workshop
This creative online workshop introduces Deaf learners to the art of storytelling. Participants will explore how to build characters, structure stories, and express ideas visually and clearly in ISL. The workshop is suitable for beginners and those with some experience in storytelling, and it focuses on developing confidence, imagination, and narrative skills.
What You Will Learn
- What Makes a Good Story
- Explore the key elements of storytelling: character, setting, conflict, and resolution.
- Visual Storytelling in ISL
Learn how to use facial expressions, body language, and space to tell stories clearly and expressively.
- Story Structure and Flow
Practice building stories with a clear beginning, middle, and end.
- Using Props and Prompts
Experiment with visual aids like Rory’s Story Cubes, images, and objects to spark ideas.
- Mini Story Practice
Create and share short stories with the group, using visual storytelling techniques.
- Group Feedback and Support
Receive feedback from peers and facilitators to improve your storytelling style.
- Final Story Presentation
Prepare and present a final story to the group, showcasing your creativity and progress.
Prerequisites
This workshop is for ISL users only. No previous storytelling experience is needed.
Progression
After completing this workshop, learners will feel more confident telling stories in ISL and may choose to join creative writing, theatre, or visual communication courses.
