About the Course
This onsite course is designed for international Deaf adults who want to improve their basic English reading and writing skills. It is ideal for beginners and those who need extra support with everyday English. Each 90-minute session is delivered in a visual and accessible way, using Irish Sign Language (ISL) and clear examples to help learners understand and practice English.
What You Will Learn
English Alphabet and Simple Words
Learn the English alphabet, basic vocabulary, and how to spell and recognise common words.
Reading Everyday English
Practice reading signs, labels, short messages, and simple instructions used in daily life.
Writing Simple Sentences
Learn how to write short sentences about yourself, your routine, and your interests.
Understanding Questions and Answers
Practice reading and answering basic questions in English, useful for forms and conversations.
Using English in Daily Life
Learn useful phrases for shopping, travel, appointments, and social situations.
Mini Project: Personal Profile
Write a short profile about yourself using the vocabulary and sentence structures learned.
Grammar Basics
Understand simple grammar rules like word order, plurals, and verb forms.
Building Confidence in English
Practice using English in group activities and get feedback to improve your skills.
Planning Your Final Project
Choose a topic (e.g. your country, your job, your hobbies) and plan a short written piece.
Final Project Execution & Showcase

Prerequisites
This course is for international Deaf adults with limited English. No previous English experience is needed.
Progression
After completing this course, learners will be able to read and write basic English for everyday use. They will be ready to join more advanced English or ESOL courses.
